Miata Treo/PDA holder mount

This is a description of how I mounted my Sedio Treo 680 mount in my 2008 Miata.

Treo in mountI decided to create a mount for my Treo 680 by using the screw locations that I found after I removed the plastic tray in the center console, below the AC controls in my Miata.  On the passenger side I mounted a cupholder using the same technique.

The mount works pretty well, and doesn't involve drilling or cutting into anything in the Miata.  It keeps the Treo very stable and out of the way, but close.  The only thing it blocks is the vent selection knob on the AC controls.

I used the same 4" angle bracket as for the cupholder system, drilling a hole 1.5" from the end of one end and cutting off 1.25" of the bracket.

Bracket with marks on itFor the Treo holder I added a stabalizer cross piece to the othe end of the bracket.  This was another metal piece I happened to have around -- not sure where it came from or what it was.  It was about 2.5" long and 0.5" wide, with holes on each end.

The actual bracket for the Sedio Treo holder was yet another piece of metal I had around the garage.  I bent it into shape and drilled a mounting hole.  The hole in the 4" angle bracket turned out to be a good location to bolt that bracket onto.

I even put some velcro on the back of the cross-piece since it hits up against the carpet below the console plastic.  This keeps the bottom of the bracket very solid even though it is not directly connected to the car.

Bracket assembledI used a long screw and 3 nuts as standoffs to attach the system to the screw hole in the console "coin slinger" area.

After painting with semi-gloss paint, I screwed it all in place and it seems to work great.  It is hard to see the left-most positions of the vent selection control, but I will get used to that.
